Longboard
The longboard is typically single-finned and features a large, rounded nose. It is usually ranges in length from about nine to twelve feet. This kind of board is often referred to as the “Mal,” a name which refers to its popularity in many parts of Malibu.
The longboard is closer in design and style to the traditional surfboard. Often this kind of board is great for riding the waves, but not necessarily designed to do tricks. This can be preferable if riding is what you want to do, and tricks are something you see as being for kids.
A variation on the longboard is the “fun board,” which looks similar to the longboard but is not quite as long. This allows more maneuverability, and sometimes features three fins instead of just the single fin. Of course, short boards are also available. The best board for you will depend on what you want to accomplish and where you’ll be surfing.
