Surf Gear
What you need in terms of surf gear varies greatly depending on what you kind of surfing you plan on doing. At a minimum, all you will really need is a surfboard, an ankle tether of some kind, and some sort of swimsuit. That is all you really need to get out on the waves, though it is more difficult to get started with only that gear, and training is always recommended.
Other types of surfing will require additional gear, and additional training. If you want to windsurf, for example, you will of course need a sail, and you will also need to know how to adjust it. Likewise, kiteboarding will require, of course, a kite.
Additional examples of surf gear include wetsuits, waterproof watches, a full body harness, a mast, and a helmet if you are nervous about hitting your head. As with other pieces of equipment, it might be wise to try renting some equipment beforehand to see if it is useful and necessary for you before you commit to the purchase. And as always, don’t be shy about asking questions at your local surf shop.
